Thank you for joining us as we have worked our way through the book of Revelation. As Pastor David continues to help us unpack the rest of the book, we are going to turn our attention in our daily devotions to the different themes found in John’s writing. For the next four weeks, we’ll dive into themes in the book of Revelation and explore how they align with the rest of Scripture.
This week we will explore the ideas of perseverance and being a faithful witness. What does it look like to stand firm in what we believe, resisting corruption and remaining loyal to God in the midst of difficult things?
Day 4: More Than Conquerors
Read Romans 8:35–39
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Reading through Revelation can feel daunting. If we aren’t careful, the trials and destruction that we read about can overwhelm us. But over and over in Revelation…and really all throughout Scripture, we can see how God is always in control. Even when all appears bleak and uncertain, He protects, provides for, redeems, and rescues His people. He is never far away, but actively working on our behalf to bring everything back into the perfection of creation that He intended from the very beginning.
I have three children, and I would do whatever I could to keep them safe and to provide for them. I have checked closets for monsters and prayed bad dreams away. I have kissed boo-boos and comforted hurting hearts when someone wasn’t kind, all in an attempt to make sure my kids felt safe and loved so that they could live confidently knowing that I am always there – no matter what. I think that is how God feels about us and of which we see evidence over and over in His Word. He wants us to know that, no matter what, He is still there with us. He wants us to live confidently in His love.
