Thank you for joining us as we have worked our way through the book of Revelation. As Pastor David continues to help us unpack the rest of the book, we are going to turn our attention in our daily devotions to the different themes found in John’s writing. For the next four weeks, we’ll dive into themes in the book of Revelation and explore how they align with the rest of Scripture.
This week we will explore the themes of God’s sovereignty and the triumph of Christ.
Day 4
Read John 18:33-37 (My Kingdom is Not of This World)
33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”
35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”
36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Is it just me, or can this world we live in feel a bit out of control or overwhelming? I am pretty sure it is not just me. The reality is that this feeling is not a surprise to God at all. He knew that we would feel out of control and overwhelmed. And He also knew that His Kingdom is NOT OF THIS WORLD! He knew that what He has to offer us is soooo much better than any struggle, discomfort, grief, or overwhelm that we might feel! No surprise. He knew! And that’s one of the many reasons we need Him! Praise God!
