Read 1 John 2:6 CSB

The one who says he remains in him should walk just as he walked.

Today I am writing from my deck on what might be one of the few warm fall days we have left. There is a nice breeze and the sun is shining! I can hear the trees rustling softly in the breeze. There is a squirrel busily chattering over on the edge of our pond. The bees are taking advantage of a warm afternoon and sampling the last of my flowers, and tiny bugs flit through the sunshine. Crickets are chirping in the yard, and I even saw a few hummingbirds zipping around!

Even though it is peaceful on my deck…the pace of the world around me is far from still. It is in constant motion. Recognizing that there is an inherent motion and pace to life, it prompts me to ask: What does it look like to live at Jesus’ pace? He didn’t sit idly by or spend his days loafing around. In fact, he spent his ministry years traveling from place to place – a life in motion. Yet he never seemed hurried. That is the kind of life I want.  One that is in step with God….full…but not hurried!

As we conclude our series this week and explore what it looks like to live at Jesus’ pace, our verse for today is a perfect reminder that Jesus modeled the perfect pace for life, and we should seek to live like he lived.

Let’s begin our week with prayer – asking God to reveal Himself to us.

Master Creator,

You created a beautiful world full of life and adventure, and good and difficult things for us to experience.  But we have taken your pace and packed it full of our own agendas. At times, we are caught up in the pace of the world we have created – not You. But Jesus, despite all that swirled around him – the pull on him to heal, to travel, to teach…He lived unapologetically at Your pace. Father, teach us to live like that. Show us how Jesus walked through life and fill us with Your power to live that way too.
