Read Matthew 6:33

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus made sure to address worrying.  He knows that worrying is part of our human condition: whether it be about our life and health, what we will eat or drink or about what we will wear.

He points out that God cares for the birds, who do nothing to gather wealth or provide for themselves, and are totally dependent on Him.  He says,

“Are you not much more valuable than they?” (verse 26)

After comparing the flowers of the field as greater than Solomon’s finest splendor He says,

“If that is how God clothes the grass of the field…will he not much more clothe you – you of little faith?” (verse 30)

The birds and flowers don’t worry, God simply takes care of them.  If He takes care of the birds and flowers and grasses, how much more will he provide for those that love Him?

Jesus Himself says you are valuable, highly valuable, and that God will provide.

“We have all things and abound; not because I have a good store of money in the bank, not because I have skill and wit with which to win my bread, but because the Lord is my Shepherd.”  C.H. Spurgeon

“Often when God does not readily give us what we want, it is because He knows what our desire would cost us.  Faith sometimes means forgoing our desires because we trust Christ to have a better plan for us.”  Beth Moore

Brothers and sisters – don’t worry about the material things – seek Him first, and the rest will follow.

Pray: “Dear Jesus – thank You for Your provision for me.  Please show me how to give cheerfully and freely what You have provided and how to use it to be of service to You and those that You’ve put in my path.  Teach me to trust You even when I am unsure of what will happen next.  Teach me not to worry but to seek You first.  In Jesus name, Amen.”
