As Pastor David continues to help us unpack the rest of the book, we are going to turn our attention in our daily devotions to the different themes found in John’s writing. For the next few weeks, we’ll dive into themes in the book of Revelation and explore how they align with the rest of Scripture.
Day 2: Punishing the World’s Evil
Read Isaiah 13:11–13 I will punish the world for its evil, the wicked for their sins. I will put an end to the arrogance of the haughty and will humble the pride of the ruthless. I will make people scarcer than pure gold, more rare than the gold of Ophir. Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the Lord Almighty, on the day of his burning anger.
Read Proverbs 16:18
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
What makes God angry? Evil, wickedness, sin, arrogance, a haughty spirit, pride, and ruthlessness. God’s heart breaks when people hurt people. God hates lies and deceitfulness. God is love, and he desires for us to desire Him. His truth is found in His Word.
Scripture tells us that God is slow to anger. He is patient and merciful. He is not quick to judge or punish people. He offers people a chance to repent. Pride and arrogance focus on self, not God. God is all-knowing. He sees far beyond what we see and can do exceedingly more than we can imagine. We must trust in His greater plan. He is working all things for the greater good!
