Luke 10:38-42 CSB (Focus verse 40)
38 While they were traveling, he entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s feet and was listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand.”
41 The Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Martha was busy doing all the work, while her sister, Mary sat with Jesus. Martha goes to Jesus to complain and asks for His assistance in getting her sister to get up and help her.
How many times have we found ourselves in this predicament, taking on all the work, not asking for help, but complaining to someone else about all we are doing?
I know I am guilty of trying to take on all the work, feeling overwhelmed and tired.
I know I am guilty of feeling resentful for not getting assistance (even though I never ask).
I know I am guilty of complaining to someone else about my problems, allowing my anger to spill onto someone else, and getting someone else fired up in hopes that they will fight this battle.
What started out as good intentions turned into me feeling (and acting) negatively….
When this happens to me, I don’t like it. I have learned to recognize that I need to take a break and reflect. When I do, God helps me to realize all the things I could do differently. If only I had taken the time to seek Him BEFORE this all happened…I am reminded again to slow down…
