2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.
Today’s verses weren’t written for Stephen but they could have been. Throughout Stephen’s life, he repeatedly shifted his focus to the things that were most important. He kept his eyes on the things of heaven and gave all of himself to make Jesus known. He cared for those who couldn’t care for themselves, he performed miracles, he unabashedly preached the Word of God with great confidence and wisdom, and he gave his life, becoming the first martyr of the church. Stephen knew that his real life existed in Christ…because of Christ, and so he offered himself fully to God.
Where is your focus today? Don’t allow yourself to get trapped in a self absorbed world of things that won’t matter in the end. Fix your eyes on the one who gives life and offer your life to Him to use you as he sees fit so that others might know His great love.
