9 But one day some men from the Synagogue of Freed Slaves, as it was called, started to debate with him (Stephen). They were Jews from Cyrene, Alexandria, Cilicia, and the province of Asia. 10 None of them could stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke.
Stephen was so filled with the Spirit of God and he spoke with such wisdom, that no one who debated him could stand up under his words. That’s pretty powerful stuff! He spoke truth no one could refute. God used Stephen in an amazing way to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Many of us will read that and be like, “Wow! That’s amazing!”, but if we are honest, we would never believe that God would use us in that way. The truth is…He can…and He wants to. There wasn’t anything special about Stephen – except that He made himself available to be used by God. He searched God’s Word and when God gave him the opportunity to speak, he didn’t resist. He leaned into the Holy Spirit and spoke with certainty.
Today, Let’s pray that as we seek to know God’s Word that He would give us opportunities to share it – to be bold and confident in our faith!
