Read Psalm 145:1-7 NIV

I will exalt you, my God the King;

    I will praise your name for ever and ever.

Every day I will praise you

    and extol your name for ever and ever.

Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;

    his greatness no one can fathom.

One generation commends your works to another;

    they tell of your mighty acts.

They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—

    and I will meditate on your wonderful works.

They tell of the power of your awesome works—

    and I will proclaim your great deeds.

They celebrate your abundant goodness

    and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

The Bible is scattered with examples of different celebrations by God’s people. These were special days, sometimes even weeks, set aside for the specific purpose of remembering and celebrating God’s goodness, provision, and rescue. Each celebration helped to focus the Israelites attention back to their reliance on God and to pass on the evidence of God’s faithfulness to future generations.

As we begin this week with a focus on celebration, let’s tune in our hearts to the evidence of God’s faithfulness in our lives as we have experienced His goodness, His provision, and His rescue in our personal journey. As the psalmist wrote in today’s verses:  Let us tell of the power of His awesome works and proclaim His great deeds. Let us celebrate His abundant goodness and joyfully sing of His righteousness.
