The need for connection
I am often in awe of the ways the Lord brings people back into my life and the joys we share serving Him at just the right time.
One of the best books I have read is Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom. I presented this book many years ago for a college psychology class. This quick read is a great reminder of the importance of human connection. The story unfolds as a former student reconnects with his college professor.
This story also shows us how Mitch’s relationship with Morrie deepens through weekly visits. It is important to show up! Throughout the visits, Mitch gains insight into living as Morrie is slowly dying. Morrie shares intimate details of his life creating a memoir and preparing Mitch to give his eulogy.
Morrie tells Mitch the most important message he wants to pass along: “In the beginning of life, when we are infants, we need others to survive, right? And at the end of life, when you get like me, you need others to survive, right? But here’s the secret: in between, we need others as well.”
Life gets busy. Don’t rush through the in-between. Take the time to show up and listen.
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near. Hebrews 10:25 (NLT)
I will end this day’s devo the same as I ended my presentation with these simple words:
“People need people.”
