Read Mark 10:52
“ ‘Go,’ said Jesus, ‘your faith has healed you.’ Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.”
Today’s verse is a continuation of the account of Bartimaeus. There is no doubt that Bartimaeus’ life was forever altered by what Jesus had done as a result of his faith. We are given a small glimpse at the impact it made in Bartimaeus’s life at the tail end of the verse. It doesn’t say, ‘Bart went home and lived happily ever after.’ It says, “Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.” What Jesus did changed the path of his life quite literally. He didn’t go home – he followed after Jesus.
When I first really owned my own faith, I remember feeling so on fire for God. I started a Bible study with a few friends from school and sang in the park in hopes of someone hearing the message of God’s great love for them. God had changed the course of my life and I wanted to follow after Him. But, maybe like some of you, after a while – I got in a rut. The fire I once had didn’t burn quite so brightly. Thankfully, God wasn’t done with me yet! Now, I find that when I seek Him, He continually refreshes me and gives me direction. He always has a next step for me.
Bartimaeus’s next step was to follow Jesus. So what’s your next step? Maybe you need to join a ministry that needs more volunteers. Maybe you need to start tithing. Maybe you need to finally invite your friend to church. Maybe you need to get back in the routine of praying and reading your bible daily. There’s no better time than now to take the next step to reignite your faith in God, your love for Jesus Christ, and your heart for growing in God’s grace.
