Lydda was near Joppa; so when the disciples heard that Peter was in Lydda, they sent two men to him and urged him, “Please come at once!”
There are a few resurrection scenes in the New Testament: Jesus rising from the dead on the third day, Lazarus being called from his tomb, and Jairus’ daughter in Luke 8. The difference between these accounts and the story of Tabitha is the response of the disciples living in Joppa. Rather than sending for help for a dying girl, as Jairus did, or burying the corpse, as Martha and Mary did, the disciples sent for Peter in Lydda even though Tabitha had already died. The faith of the disciples was so great that they asked Peter to come at once.
Pray: Lord, we pray for the faith of the disciples of Joppa. Even in the face of death, we ask for the urgency of their conviction. Through you all things are possible. Amen.
