Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.
These verses are a great reminder of how we are supposed to use the gifts God has given us and why. They are also some of my favorites. I have had them written on an index card and taped to my refrigerator for the last 10 or so years. They made their way to a prominent place on my fridge during a season of disappointment when I needed their gentle reminder each day about who I am “working” for and why.
Every time we use the gifts God has given us we have the opportunity to serve Him. That is our real purpose. We weren’t meant to use them to impress others, to make ourselves look good, or even to gain anything for ourselves. The gifts we have been given were meant for us to use to ultimately serve God. So, whatever you do today do it with a heart that wants to serve God.
Dear God,
Thank You for the gifts You have given us. Help us to continue to seek out how You would have us use them to serve You and those around us. Thank You for the opportunities You give us to love others and to show them how much You love them as well. Help us to use the gifts You have given us well. Amen.
