Read Proverbs 11:25
“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”
I am in a season of life right now where everything seems to be constantly changing. I find myself approaching things cautiously because life just feels a bit unstable. I hold tightly to my family, to my time, and to my emotions. I try to keep things pretty much within my reach so that I don’t feel too out of control. Forget about being generous with any part of my life…I’m too busy trying to handle all of the stuff I have right now! And honestly…it’s exhausting trying to keep all the pieces from floating away.
There are a myriad of things that eat away at us and preoccupy our heads and our hearts, making us feel like we are unable to be generous with our lives. For me, right now, it is a lot of change. What is it for you? It might be an illness, a disappointment, or a job situation.
Today’s verse is a reminder to me that holding on tight to all that I have will only ever bring me exhaustion. When I actually let go and can be generous with what I have been given, God gives me glimpses of the joy and impact it has on others…which brings a smile to my face and joy to my own life. The times when I feel the least willing to give of myself are the exact times I NEED to give of myself. It is only in those times when I stop relying on me and allow God to take over and refresh me. Do you need to feel refreshed today? What can you let go of?
Ask God to help you loosen your grip on whatever you are struggling with, so that you can have a heart filled with generosity.
