The Macedonian church’s generosity
Read 2 Corinthians 8:2-5 NIV
In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people. And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us
Despite their own poverty, the Macedonian church was remarkably generous in supporting others, and God miraculously made them more able to give than they’d expected.
The message here is to give when you have plenty as well as when you don’t. Tithing is a way to give a percentage of what you have. It is not the amount that you give that matters, it is the consistency in giving. Instead of dreaming about all the ways you will be more generous one day when you have the means, allow giving to be a constant privilege, a rich part of your life, no matter your circumstances. You will be amazed at what God will do!
