Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.
Love empowers us to fulfill the law of the Anointed One as we carry each other’s troubles.
God,
You never intended that we should carry the burdens of this life on our own. Your perfect design, even from the beginning, was that we would live in community with each other and with You. But our pride and our fear so often get in the way of the type of communal living You intended. And so, we bear so much on our own, muscling our way through hurts and frustration, grief and disappointments. Sure, we might offer to help another but we are all too often reluctant to share the struggle and burdens we might be facing. Today, I pray that we would see that really loving one another is not always about giving help, because that can lead to false pride in what we can do and manage on our own, but that truly loving each other requires both the willingness to carry one another and to be carried. Empower us today to reach beyond pride and fear and to live a little more freely in the love we offer and accept from one another. Amen.
