When Evil Seems to Win
“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good…” Genesis 50:20
“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:4
My son’s wife is a reporter at a national news publication and we were talking recently about the constant flow of bad news coming at us from every angle.
I said that I was really looking forward to taking a month off from social media around the holidays, which I do every year.
She said, “Dad, I can’t turn it off.”
Of course she meant that it’s her job to process and filter this massive amount of daily information but it made me think that I may be more influenced than I want to be by what I consume.
Rather than filtering media through God’s goodness, what if I’m being swept away by the wave? Is that why I need a break?
This is not to minimize evil and injustice but shouldn’t the presence of it draw me to our redemptive God?
Something to contemplate today: Where have I seen God bring redemption out of wrong? Also – it may not be the worst idea ever to take a social media break and spend that time and <prayerfully fill in this blank>.
