Read Ephesians 5:1-2 NIV

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

There is a country song by Rodney Atkins titled Watching You.  It’s about a young boy who carefully watches everything his father does so that he can be just like his dad. The chorus goes like this:

He said I’ve been watching you dad, ain’t that cool

I’m your buckaroo, I wanna be like you

And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are

We got cowboy boots and camo pants

Yeah we’re just alike, hey ain’t we dad

I wanna do everything you do

So I’ve been watching you

Kids naturally want to be like the people they spend a lot of time with and look up to. They will watch those important people in their lives very closely and try to do things exactly the same way.   As humans though,  that may not always be a good thing! We tend to mess up. Jesus, on the other hand, is a perfect role model!

Just like our children naturally try to be like us,  we are created to be like our Heavenly Father. It is part of God’s design that we, as His children, would be like Him in order to show the world what He is like. The more time we spend with Jesus…the more we are like Him, and the more the world gets to see a little more of Him in us.

Let’s aim to look for Jesus more in our day to day activities and then work at living like Him.  Like today’s verse says, “walk in the way of love.” Live sacrificially. Love fiercely.
