Read Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.

The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

Where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord. As we talk about open-handed this week, it is important to recognize that it is only when we fully open our hands and surrender to God that we can truly receive His help. But as humans, even this isn’t something we can do on our own, by our own strength.  Sure we can try, but sooner or later we are certain to go right back to trying to muscle our way through and do it on our own.

Philippians 4:13 says, For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. God promises to give us His strength if we put our trust in Him, so let’s take Him at His word today and allow Him to give us the strength to live more open-handedly.

Dear Heavenly Father, I lift my hands up to you, praising You in all of Your goodness. As I do this, I am grateful to receive Your blessing and Your strength to carry out the plans You have for me. Help me to be a blessing to others, extending a helping hand in love. Amen
