Correspondent: It is day 6 of our investigative report on love. Join us today as King David commissions his son, Solomon (1 Chronicles 28) We see David, a man after God’s own heart and being wise in God’s teachings, here making plans for the building of the temple. Part of his preparation is to prepare the heart of his son, Solomon, the future king.
DAVID:
Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve Him with your whole heart and willing mind. For the Lord sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek Him, you will find Him. But if you forsake him, He will reject you forever. (1 Chronicles 28:9)
Correspondent: David recognizes his son needs direction. His advice to Solomon is that he must learn to know God intimately. In order to truly love someone, a person has to get to know them on a deeper level. David tells Solomon to go deep with God and learn all about Him. David recognizes that in order to do anything for the Lord, one must be knowledgeable of who He is.
I once had a child ask me this very question. She said, “I don’t know about this God guy; who is He anyway?” Maybe you are asking this same question…
How can anyone Love with all their heart, their mind, their soul, their strength without knowing what they are putting their efforts into?
The answer is, God knows all about you and He wants you to know Him. You can get to know the Lord, your God by reading and studying His Word, talking with Him through prayer and meeting with other believers who know Him.
Seek the Lord with all your whole heart and be willing to learn all about His ways so that you may serve Him well. Worship Him through song and thanksgiving. Listen carefully to hymns and Christian music. Praise God for His blessings.
