Read Psalm 46:10
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
We see the theme of stillness in many places in the Bible. Here in our reading in Psalms today; when Jesus calms a storm that has the disciples a nervous wreck; before epic battles the Israelites faced; and many more.
I love the idea of stillness. It entices me. I long for it. But often it feels like it eludes me because fear and anxiety take over all too easily.
Fear and anxiety can often make us feel like we are in constant motion. Our minds and our bodies go to work trying to make sense of the world around us and gain some sense of control.
But maybe what we need for today is to just set all of that aside and be still. God has given us the Holy Spirit as a gift: a gift that brings us peace of mind and heart. It is a gift that the world cannot replicate (John 14:27). Let your mind rest in the peace He gives and know that God is still in control. Seek to sit and rest in His presence today. God will be seen in the chaos and His glory will be made known in all the earth. Let it start by reining in your heart and mind today.
