We continue with our devotional series  “A Few of Our Favorite Things” where you’ll hear from some of our pastors and volunteers as they share how God’s Word has impacted them.

Read 1 Peter 5:7 NLT

Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.

For many years this was a verse I turned to for comfort but never understood how to actually live it. I have always struggled with anxiety.  No matter what I did, I couldn’t control my fears and worries. It was all consuming and affected every aspect of my life. One evening I decided to participate in the Cross Creek Prayer and Healing Service. I learned to forgive people in my life and thank God for healing my anxiety. The next day I was faced with a situation that would have normally caused me to worry and in that moment I decided I would not allow Satan to control my mind anymore. The sense of peace I felt was unmistakable. Over the next several weeks I would have to remind myself to thank God for His healing when those fears and worries crept back into my mind. Months later, I realize I haven’t been worrying at all! And just in time!  God has revealed the next chapter He has planned for my husband and me. One that should cause me to have fear and worry but instead has brought a peace that can only come from Him. Worry is not of God. He tells us to give our worries and cares to Him because He loves us and wants us to experience the joy He has planned for our lives. We do not have to be slaves to fear and worry because our fears are drowned in His perfect love.
