Luke 17:5-6
The apostles said to the Lord, “Show us how to increase our faith.” The Lord answered, “If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be uprooted and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you!
The disciples ask Jesus to increase their faith after He had given them difficult teachings on forgiveness and repentance. Jesus’ response is encouraging and also humbling. He gently reminds them that it is important to have powerful, genuine, and active faith. Their obedience is dependent on their faith in God. If they have faith in God, they will be able to accomplish anything that Jesus asks of them, because it is a request from God Himself. What is God requesting of you that you feel ill-equipped and unqualified for? How will you trust Him?
Dear God, We know that anything is possible with You. Why is it that we feel so underqualified and fear failure? We want to honor You and obey Your every request, yet we question how to do this. Please help us to take the focus off ourselves and refocus on You. Today, we fully surrender to all that You ask of us, trusting in Your abilities. Help us to release control so that we can fully experience all that You are capable of. Amen
