Read: Psalm 10:1-2 NRSV
Why, O Lord, do you stand far off?
Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
In arrogance the wicked persecute the poor—
let them be caught in the schemes they have devised.
We often cry out with David when evil seems to have the upper hand. Injustice, suffering, and violence can make us wonder if God is distant. Yet the psalms teach us that lament is a faithful response to the reality of sin. Mourning is not hopelessness—it is the soul’s protest against what should not be, and a longing for God’s justice.
Pray: God, when I feel abandoned or overwhelmed by evil, remind me that You are still present, and that Your justice is sure and coming.
