Read John 2:8-9a
Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.
Jesus didn’t do anything to the stone jars or to the water. He only spoke and instructed the servants to act. I am reminded of another time in Scripture where God spoke, and miracles happened. In Genesis, we see how God spoke our world into existence, establishing himself as the creator and sustainer of everything. In today’s verses we see Jesus identified in that same role as he speaks – and water becomes wine.
Jesus is God with us. Our creator and sustainer, on earth to live with us, to know us…and ultimately to save us.
God, thank You for Your presence with us through Jesus and the Holy Spirit. We are in awe of Your ability to create and to sustain our world with just a word from Your mouth. We praise You because all that You have created was for us – to show us Your love in real and tangible ways. We humble ourselves before You, acknowledging Your power, Your mercy, and Your grace. Amen.
