Matthew 11: 28-30: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

In today’s verse we learn about the compassion of Jesus.  There are many examples of this in the New Testament.  In fact, in Matthew 9 the Apostle summarizes Jesus’ travels this way:

”Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.“ (Matthew 9:35-36)

The reason why Jesus ministered to people, the reason he ministers to us, is because of his great compassion for us. And he gives us comfort.

He feeds the 4,000 in Matthew 15 saying “I have compassion for the multitude because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.“

He heals two blind men in Matthew 20: “So Jesus had compassion and touched their eyes. And immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed Him”.

He heals a leper in Mark 1: “Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, ‘I am willing; be cleansed.’ As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed”.

Jesus has compassion for your suffering, too, and promises to comfort you.  He desires to minister to you.

How has Jesus comforted you or those in your life?  What happened?

If not – ask the same question of another Christian with whom you’re comfortable.
