Daily Devotional

There are accounts of personal encounters with God sprinkled throughout the Bible. This week we will spend time looking at some of those accounts and exploring how God spoke to ordinary people – like you and me.

Read Genesis 12:1 NLT

The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”

Today we listen in on the beginning of God’s conversation with Abram. Abram appears to be an ordinary guy. But God taps him on the shoulder and begins to give him directions. Abram takes God at His word and goes where God is leading, setting off  a series of events that lead to a name change, the formation of a nation, and a lineage that leads straight to Jesus. There were many points along Abraham’s journey where he had to have thought – “This is crazy! What in the world are we doing?” But he continued to listen for God’s voice and followed where he led. God kept his word every step of the way and the blessings for Abraham’s obedience were beyond amazing – we’re still being blessed through it today!

God has a habit of using ordinary people in extraordinary ways when they are willing to listen and go where he leads. Where is He leading you? Are you willing to listen and follow His lead?
