This week we will be talking about words of love.

We know that the Apostle John calls Jesus “the Word” (“Logos” in the Greek) and describes His presence in the Trinity and that God, by His words, spoke the world into existence.

We know that Jesus came into the world as a baby and spoke words of truth, love and forgiveness to people and that, by accepting Jesus’ words with our heartfelt words, we can be forgiven of our sins.

As we are all created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27) we also have the opportunity to “speak” things into existence.  True – words are often used in the world to hurt people or steal their minds but we’re going to focus this week on how words of love, so much more powerful when spoken in deference to the prompting of the Holy Spirit within us, can bring life to the people around us.

This week, when we speak about “Words of Love”, we’re talking about the love of God for the people around us expressed through our words.

Even at age 57 I easily forget the lesson I should have learned so long ago – that words are powerful.  I can be careless with my words and hurt people (and most often the people that I love the most).

I also sometimes forget that, as a believer in Jesus, people hear my words and judge all Christians based on what I say, justified or not.

As you pray this morning, take inventory of how you have used words in the past week and ask God to reveal to you the opportunities you will have this week to use words of love.
