Daily Devotionals

June 5th, 2021

We continue with our devotional series  “A Few of Our Favorite Things” where you’ll hear from some of our pastors and volunteers as they share how God’s Word has impacted them.

Read Colossians 3:23 NIV

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,

This verse has hung on my refrigerator door for probably the last 15 years.  I need its persistent reminder each day.  I need the reminder that the things I put my hands to each day are a gift.  They are a gift from a God who loves me and they are to be used to glorify Him…not to make me happy or to make my life easier. Because sometimes – that is sooooo not the case!  It is a verse that reminds me that, although my choices are my own, my intentions should be focused on God.  On the plan he has for me and my life, on my relationship with Him,  but also on the greater picture of my life and how God intends to use me in the lives of others.

There are days I miss the simple, oh so important truth of this verse.  On those days… I live for me.  It doesn’t always end up so bad, but I can’t help but wonder what I may have missed out on because my vision was short-sighted.
