Camping season is upon us! I remember going away to “church camp” when I was a teenager. It was like entering a whole different world. Morning chapel was held outside. We sat on logs arranged in rows that were still damp from the morning dew. We were barely awake, the sun rising in front of us as we listened to Scripture and an inspiring message that prepared us for the rest of the day.
The days were filled with team-building activities and challenges ranging from kayak races to constructing toothpick buildings.
We ended each day around a campfire. It was so relaxing and peaceful to sit around the fire after a long day. We told stories and sang many different songs. A line from one of my favorite songs was: “It only takes a spark to get a fire going, that’s how it is with God’s Love, once you’ve experienced it, you want to pass it on.” It always inspired me.
When preparing for a fire, you must start small with dry leaves, pine needles, or crumpled paper. You gradually build up the fire with kindling and medium-sized sticks. Larger logs are added when you have a solid bed of glowing embers. That heat will be strong enough to catch the bigger wood and keep your fire going for hours.
A raging fire can develop from a handful of leaves and a small spark. The same is true with us. There is a “spark” that lives within each one of us, and His name is Jesus! How will you pass that spark on?
Read Jeremiah 20:9
“But if I say, ‘I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,’ his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.”
Don’t hold it in!! The Good News is meant to be shared!!
