Daily Devotionals

June 3rd, 2021

We continue with our devotional series  “A Few of Our Favorite Things” where you’ll hear from some of our pastors and volunteers as they share how God’s Word has impacted them.

Read Isaiah 40:28-31 ESV

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

To put my thoughts into perspective on why this verse is one of my favorites requires a quote from one of my favorite movies. The quote is from “Rocky” speaking to his son, and it is a powerful statement:

“ Let me tell you something you already know, the world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, Me, or Nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.” -Rocky Balboa.

One might ask, ‘well how does that relate to my faith?’  Well, for me, nothing does hit harder than life. We make mistakes, we stumble and fall. We aren’t strong enough against life on our own. Young or old we faint, we grow weary. So how do we keep moving forward? By waiting on the Lord who renews our strength. No matter what life throws at us, when we wait on God, life can’t keep us down. This verse reminds me that He is always there and is our ever present strength in good and hard times. He loves us so deeply that He helps us take the hits of life and keeps us moving forward.
