Read Luke 7:9
“When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, ‘I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.’ ”
Today’s verse is the conclusion of an encounter Jesus had with a Roman Centurion soldier. The Centurion had a beloved servant who was ill and he came to Jesus for help. But he didn’t want to trouble Jesus with traveling to his home. Instead, he professed that he believed Jesus could heal his servant from where he stood. As a soldier, he understood authority – that when the officer in charge gives an order there is certainty that it will be carried out. The Centurion recognized Jesus’ authority to heal and was certain he needed only to say the words and his servant would be healed. What great faith the Centurion showed and Jesus was amazed!
Take a second to let that sink in. Jesus was amazed and He told everyone around Him! Can you imagine what it would be like to have your faith characterized like that by Jesus? Looking at your own life, what would Jesus say about your faith? Would Jesus be amazed by your great faith?
Pray and ask God to increase your faith. Ask Him to reveal where you have not surrendered complete control of your life to Him and instead relied on your own understanding and your own abilities. Ask God to help you take a step forward in trusting Him with your whole life.
