Read Matthew 11:29-30 NIV

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

You have probably heard this phrase before: “All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten.” Maybe you’ve seen the list.  Did you realize there is a whole book written on this subject? “All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten” is an inspirational book of hope written by Robert Fulghum. He writes in an amusing style to bring us all back to the beginning, the basics.

Kindergarten was where it all began. Just  months shy of being 6 years old, I walked into that  big, yellow, 3 story brick building, full of anxiety and unknown expectations. My mother’s advice and firm instruction was to listen and use my manners. She assured me I would be safe and that she would be back in a couple of hours. I had to trust that everything Mom said would be true.

And it was. I soon discovered that listening was FUN! Listening meant learning, and learning gave me confidence and offered more security. I found out stuff, just by listening! I recognized early on what was expected of me by listening! And I was delighted that it was so easy!

Life is not supposed to be hard. I really believe that God designed things to be easy.

Jesus encourages us in Matthew 11:29-30, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

I truly believe kindergarten laid the foundation for my faith. It fostered my love of learning and forced me to trust in the unknown. I also believe that Jesus was with me on that day many years ago and remains in me today! I am grateful to take His yoke upon me and learn from Him, finding rest in Him.

I want to encourage you to do the same. Have you accepted Jesus into your heart? If not, you can do it today; all you have to do is ask. It’s that simple!

Dear God,

Thank You for always being with us, even before we recognized You were there.  Thank You for Your Word and the ways You teach us. Help us to continue to learn through listening and not overthinking. Help us to keep things as You intend them to be – simple! Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus. We want to invite Him into our hearts, learn from Him, work with Him and rest in His loving arms. We put our trust in Jesus as He paves the way and helps us to put down all the difficult things we choose to carry. In His Name we pray, Amen
