“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.”
Paul and Silas were in prison. Prison! And yet, they devoted themselves to prayer and singing hymns of praise to God. Can you imagine? The fact that they were locked up in prison and chose to sing praises and pray to God is incredible. They were in prison and had been stripped, beaten, and placed in stocks (iron clamps) in a prison cell. Let’s take a moment to reflect on the fact that Paul and Silas had not committed any crime…at all. They were peaceful men of God and had been placed in these iron stocks that were designed for holding the most dangerous of criminals. Despite all of this, they chose to pray and sing hymns to God! I don’t know about you, but when I am wrongly accused in a situation, my response is rarely, if ever, to break out in prayer and song. Though, as I continue on my prayer journey, I am encouraged by this example of Paul and Silas. God longs for us to come to Him and trust Him in every circumstance. Today, allow God to transform your prayer life by seeking opportunities to pray and sing to Him in any and every situation!
