We continue with our devotional series “A Few of Our Favorite Things” where you’ll hear from some of our pastors and volunteers as they share how God’s Word has impacted them.
So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”
When I read this verse I can’t help but think about how far we were from God before Jesus paid our ransom to bring us back into right-standing with Him. We were the Lord’s enemies. We were in direct opposition to God due to our many, many sins and shortcomings. But once Christ came into the picture He made a way for us to no longer be God’s enemies deserving of death. He freely gave us the opportunity to not only restore the relationship between us and God but to become his chosen, adopted and legitimate children. While we were far from Him, He made a way for us to be grafted into the tree of life and become, with Christ, heirs of God’s glory.
