Several months ago I ordered a small cabinet to be used in remodeling the KidZone lobby at church. I was pretty excited when it arrived and set to work assembling it with the help of a friend. We opened the box and pulled out the instructions. At first glance it appeared to be a pretty simple design that could be completed in roughly half an hour. But the more closely we looked at the instructions, the more confused we became. The instructions were made up solely of pictures…and the pictures didn’t match up with the materials we received in the box. But we forged ahead! …an hour later we called in reinforcements in the form of my husband. Even he scratched his head at the instructions. We ended up winging it a little bit but the final result was a pretty cool looking cabinet – and stern words of advice from my husband to never buy anything from there again.
I quickly found out how important clear and good instructions are. The same is true in our lives. So often we look in all the wrong places for direction – when we could save ourselves a lot of headache and heartache if we just went to God first. We expend an awful lot of energy searching and following after the wrong things. But following God’s direction is life giving! His instructions renew us and give us security allowing us to move forward boldly.
