“Come, let us return to the Lord. He has torn us to pieces; now he will heal us. He has injured us; now he will bandage our wounds. In just a short time he will restore us, so that we may live in his presence. Oh, that we might know the Lord! Let us press on to know him. He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring.”
There is something amazing that happens when we make a conscious decision to “return to the Lord.” By acknowledging the fact that we have departed from following God as He designed and then choosing to put our feet back on a path in step with our Savior, we open ourselves up to the blessing, healing power, and the tangible presence of God in our lives that He has desired for us all along.
The tricky part is staying in that sweet spot of His restoration and presence. God gives us the key to that in these verses too! I love the words that clue us in – “Oh that we might know the Lord! Let us press on to know Him.” The key to staying in that sweet spot is seeking God out to know Him more. When we get to know God’s character, His heart and His faithfulness, our trust and faith in Him grows and grows. The more we know Him the easier it becomes to love Him and to trust Him to breathe power and new life into our journey.
