Esther Chapter 7

On the second day of the banquet, the king asked Queen Esther again for her request and offered half the kingdom again.  Then Queen Esther answered, “If I have found favor with you, Your Majesty, and if it pleases you, grant me my life—this is my petition. And spare my people—this is my request. For I and my people have been sold to be destroyed, killed and annihilated. If we had merely been sold as male and female slaves, I would have kept quiet, because no such distress would justify disturbing the king.” Esther 7:3-4

Esther is very considerate of the king and makes it clear that she respects his decision whatever it may be, while sticking up for herself and her people.

We can learn alot from Esther in these two verses. Esther shows respect to the king, reassuring him that if they were being sold into slavery she would not have bothered him. Esther explains that she spoke up because lives were at stake – hers included!

Esther shows us that there is a way to stick up for yourself while showing respect. So often we think that we are being disrespectful to others when we speak up for ourselves, challenge what is being said or done and/or setting boundaries. Esther shows us that this is okay and very important! We are not only protecting ourselves when we speak up, but also looking out for and helping others. We must remember to prepare, seek the Lord for guidance, exercise patience and self control and react in a respectful manner in order to be most effective. Thank you, Esther, for being the example of the right way to handle opposition, fear and injustice!

Dear Lord,

Thank You for enlightening us with the story of Esther. Her character is a reflection of integrity, respect and great self-control. She faithfully listens and obeys while putting her trust in You. Our prayer today is for the desire to do the same. Father, help us to continue to look to You for the answers through prayer and studying Your Word. We are thankful for the Holy Spirit that lives in each one of us; the gift that was given through Your Son Jesus to help us and guide us. In His Name we pray, Amen
