Read: Psalm 63:6 “On my bed I remember You; I think of You through the watches of night”.
Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night with a wandering mind? Maybe your heart was racing and every worry you have ever had comes bubbling up to the surface? Perhaps you find it difficult to fall back asleep and settle in for a peace filled night? What do you do on those nights?
I imagine David settling into his bumpy, cold, barren, bed in the wilderness cave and, despite all the things he must have on his mind, he chooses to push all that aside and focus on God. David makes the choice to think about God throughout the night. He remembers God and His faithfulness. David could have just let his imagination run wild and allowed his fear and worries to take over. But instead, he chose to focus his mind on God who loves him.
2 Corinthians 4:18 tells us to “fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
Wilderness seasons often bring sleepless nights and unanswered questions. David discovered that God was not absent in the darkness. He was right there beside him.
The night can become a sacred place where we learn to rest in God’s presence.
Reflection: How can I invite God into my worries and fears?
Prayer: Father, remind me that I never walk through the wilderness alone. Help me focus my eyes on You!
