Read Isaiah 43:16-19 NLT

I am the Lord, who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea. I called forth the mighty army of Egypt with all its chariots and horses. I drew them beneath the waves, and they drowned, their lives snuffed out like a smoldering candlewick. “But forget all that— it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness.I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.

Do you see what God does right there?  He reminds us that He made a way through the sea…a path through mighty waters, He drew out chariots and horses…He reminds us of the milestones along the way where He loved, protected and provided for those who followed Him. But he doesn’t stop there in those moments – He says forget those things…don’t dwell on the past. It’s like He is saying take a second – look at all these milestones on the journey so far but don’t stop there. Forget those things – take the faith and the trust you have gained through them but look ahead – there is much more to the journey.  He says,  I am about to do a new thing! Even in the middle of what doesn’t make sense right now. Even in the middle of hurt and confusion, disappointment and sorrow – the dry, barren places of your life where it looks like no good can come…I am there. Like rivers in a wasteland – bringing new life.

God,

Thank You for the reminder that the milestones we experience today can become the building blocks of the faith that we need for tomorrow. We thank You for Your faithfulness and Your compassion and provision for our life’s journey. And we thank You for what You are about to do in us and through us. Help us to keep our eyes focused on you and to step boldly in faith into the next part of our journey. Amen.
