Daily Devotionals

July 20th, 2025

Each week of devotions throughout our Live Worthy series on Ephesians will be spent on a single chapter.  We encourage you to re-read the chapter each day. Additionally, we will focus on a few key verses each day. This week, we will focus on chapter 2 of Ephesians

Read: Ephesians 2

Read: Ephesians 2:1-3 “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.”

Paul begins by painting a stark picture of our former spiritual condition: “dead in our transgressions and sins.” This isn’t merely “sick” or “struggling”; it’s a state of complete spiritual lifelessness, separated from God. We were enslaved to the world’s ways, the influence of evil, and our own sinful desires. This honest assessment helps us appreciate the depth of God’s later intervention. Consider what aspects of your past life resonate with these verses. What “cravings of the flesh” or “desires and thoughts” once dominated you?

Pray: Gracious God, we acknowledge the truth of our former state, dead in our sins and captive to the world. Thank you for revealing the depth of our need for you. Help us to never forget the darkness from which you rescued us, so we might fully appreciate your light. Amen.
