July 14th, 2025

Each week of devotions throughout our Live Worthy series on Ephesians will be spent on a single chapter.  We encourage you to re-read the chapter each day. Additionally, we will focus on a few key verses each day. This week, we will focus on chapter 1 of Ephesians

Read Ephesians 1

Focus Verses: Ephesians 1:3-6 NLT

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.

I have had the privilege to watch as families dear to my heart embark on journeys of adoption.  What an amazing story of love and pursuit their lives tell.  Children, who would have otherwise been forgotten, were chosen and pursued amid great emotional and financial cost – trusting that God would provide.  Our friends have traveled great distances to bring their children home and welcome them into safe and loving families at last.

This is such a great picture of what God has done for us.  Our sin should have caused us to be forgotten about, but God pursued us from the very beginning!  He did so at great cost – the death of His Son.  That sacrifice paid for our sins and would have been enough, but God chose to also welcome us into His family as His adopted children, with all the rights and privileges that come with that.

We, too, have been chosen and pursued; rescued and redeemed; now forgiven and holy.  Some of us have traveled far from God, and the distance He has gone to bring us home seems astonishing.  But His love knows no bounds.  We have at last been welcomed home into the safe and loving family of God as His children.
