Read Ephesians 3:8-12 CSB
This grace was given to me—the least of all the saints—to proclaim to the Gentiles the incalculable riches of Christ, and to shed light for all about the administration of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things. This is so that God’s multi-faceted wisdom may now be made known through the church to the rulers and authorities in the heavens. This is according to his eternal purpose accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. In him we have boldness and confident access through faith in him.
It is clear by the way Paul writes to the church at Ephesus that he came to love them dearly during the time he spent with them. Because of his love and investment in their spiritual growth, his letter is rich with reminders of the principles of their faith and encouragement to live those same principles out in the world. Here are some of the themes you can expect to see as we begin to explore the text:
“In Christ” – This phrase appears many times in the letter. It helps us to understand that everything about the new life we have as Christians starts with Jesus.
Before and After – Once we were lost and separated from God – without hope. But the moment we give our lives to Christ, we become new! We are adopted into his family, close to God, and full of hope!
Unity – As adopted children of God we are one family. We are one body with many parts because we serve one Lord and God.
Transformation – When we begin to understand the fullness of our life in Christ, transformation begins to happen. We think differently, we speak differently, and we desire to be more like our Heavenly Father.
Overflow/Abundance – The language of overflow and abundance permeates Paul’s letter. God’s abundant love is lavished on us, and we cannot help but overflow with that love to those around us. Everything we say and do is because of the love God showed us first through Jesus…it’s all for Jesus!

PRAY:
Lord,
Help us to see You and know your heart more clearly as we study Ephesians. Show us who we were created to be through Your word, and help us to live that out. Work in us and through us as we hold our lives out to You with open hands. Thank You for loving us well. Amen.
