Daily Devotional
February 1, 2021
Over the last 3 weeks, we have experienced an incredible time of prayer together through the 21 Days of Prayer series. But we want to encourage you to continue with the habit of seeking God in prayer daily. So, this week we will focus on prayer itself. We’ll read some scripture that will help us examine our hearts as we seek God and we’ll ask some hard questions to help us continue to learn about growing our relationship with God through prayer.
“…God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Anyone who has multiple children knows that there are bound to be arguments where apologies become a necessity. I remember sitting my own children down and talking through conflicts and then encouraging them to say “I am sorry” or “I forgive you.” Sometimes they weren’t quite ready for those words and they came out in grumbles. Their hearts just weren’t in it yet. Their attitudes didn’t quite match up with their words. The same is true when we pray. When we pray, it is not so much about what we say in our prayers, but the attitude with which we say it. After all, God already knows our requests. You can do and say everything “right” and still not see your prayers answered, because God weighs our hearts. He knows the attitude with which we approach him and responds appropriately. Today as we pray, let’s do a quick attitude check. Ask God to cultivate a heart of humility in you. Ask God to search your heart and reveal things that you need to fully surrender to him.
ASK
- Am I seeking to communicate with God with a humble heart or a heart seeking only what I want?
- Do my words match the attitude of my heart?
