Read Matthew 6:9-13 NIV (Emphasis on vs. 11)
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“ ‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
We have spent the last few weeks at Cross Creek working through the Lord’s Prayer as a model for the manner in which we ought to approach prayer. For the rest of the week we will take some bite-sized pieces of the prayer as Jesus instructed His followers to pray, and focus on centering our own prayer for the day in that direction. Today we will focus on verse 11 and our reliance on God to sustain us.
11 “Give us today our daily bread.”
God,
Thank You for Your sustaining love. Remind us today of the ways You have loved and provided for Your children through the ages. Help us not to get caught up in the lie that it is best if we take care of ourselves…that we can do it on our own – but to recognize that all we have and all we need comes from You. It is not by the work of our hands that we are sustained, but by the work of Your heart. You provide with abundance and grace, giving us what we need for the day at hand. Help us to recognize that it is enough – that You are enough for today, and tomorrow, and every day. Thank You! Amen.
