Read – Mark 10:43-45 TPT

You are to lead by a different model. If you want to be the greatest, then live as one called to serve others. The path to promotion comes by having the heart of a bond-slave who serves everyone. For even the Son of Man did not come expecting to be served by everyone, but to serve everyone, and to give his life as the ransom price for the salvation of many.”

The American dream: an often misinterpreted belief that accomplishment involves making as much money as possible. However, in God’s kingdom serving others is recognized as the greatest achievement. When we consider the needs of others our first thought should not involve how that service will affect our lives. It should be a part of us, our identity, how we are recognized.

In society we devote so much time to what the world thinks we should be doing, only to realize we do not have any time left to serve those in need. We earn enough money to keep up with others, but we do not have enough left to give to those in need.

God created us in His image and wants us to be His representatives. Who we are in Him is meant to remind others of His greatness. None of us will be perfect in this journey but when we live the way God intended, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead our lives, we find that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility, and self-control (Galatians 5:22) are at the forefront of our minds. Worldly desires are no longer the priority. We begin to become more aligned with God’s image.

Let’s work to change the model of who we are. Be the follower Jesus intended us to be. Let service be who we are instead of what we do. When we do, we will then learn the true meaning of achievement.
