Read – Matthew 5:14-16 NIV

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Last summer a fast-moving weather system passed by our home. It was very interesting to watch the clouds moving so quickly. A short time later, in the distance, that system developed into a thunderstorm producing the most amazing lighting event, lasting for what seemed like hours. The light in the sky was stunning. It was hard to stop watching because each flash of light seemed more beautiful than the last.

When Jesus called us to be the light of the world, He expected our faith to shine as brightly as that lightning. When we allow the love of Jesus to radiate from us, our glow makes people stop and question what is different about us. They are drawn from the spiritual darkness they live in and desire what we have. However, if we hide that light and keep our faith to ourselves, there is no opportunity to let His light shine.

Look for those opportunities to shine your light. Maybe it is bringing a yummy treat to a neighbor, serving at church, volunteering at a local charity, or just letting that person in the grocery line go before us. Tipping a server at the restaurant even though they might not have performed the way we expected. Offering every person we encounter a smile and a hello, or showing grace in the workplace. Whatever you decide, choose to let your light shine so that all can see.
