When people use the word fight, I think of a physical altercation. The dictionary definition is to take part in a violent struggle involving the exchange of blows or use of weapons. I am not much of a fighter and I never have been. Many times, I have just let things go or suppressed them. Over the years, I have learned how to “fight” in a more productive, healthy way. I have not taken any karate lessons or competed in any boxing matches, but I have prepared myself for the battle by endorsing the proper equipment.

When I am faced with a challenge, instead of turning to violence, I turn the pages in my Bible. I am learning that I can be fully equipped by the Word of God:

I can be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.  (Ephesians 6:10)

I put on the full armor of God as I fight for my family:

The belt of truth-I stick to just the facts

The breastplate of righteousness-I ask what would Jesus do?

I stand firm in the shoes of peace-I practice self control and do my best to remain calm

I take up my shield of faith-I trust in the Lord

I put on my helmet of salvation-I remind myself that I have been forgiven and in return have been asked to offer forgiveness to others

I use the sword of the Spirit and the Word of God – I pray, listen and search God’s Word for direction

I pray in the Spirit on all occasions (especially the challenges) with all kinds of prayers and requests. Ephesians 6:14-18

The Lord equips up and prepares us all for battle. All we have to do is talk to Him.

I’d like to encourage you to talk to God and ask Him to help you fight for your family (whatever that may mean to you today). The Lord is with you…
