What we believe: We believe in the authority of God’s Word over our lives
Read Hebrews 4:12 NIV
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Communication is an important part of our lives and our relationships. Like me, you probably have different styles and different ways you communicate based on the nature of those relationships. For example, my primary mode of communication with my husband is face-to- face conversation. We are in close proximity to each other – so that just makes sense. My family lives in several different states so video messaging has become our go-to mode of communication. My colleagues at work use text, email, and a shared virtual workspace to stay connected. We have a lot of different tools at our disposal to communicate our thoughts and ideas with each other.
The same can be true spiritually. When we want to communicate with God we can pray and we can worship to express to God what we are thinking and feeling. When God wants to communicate with us, one of the primary ways He does so is through His Word. That’s why today’s belief statement is so important.
Even though the Bible was written thousands of years ago, it is filled with wisdom and insight for today. I love today’s verse in Hebrews which reminds us that the Word of God is alive and powerful. God intended for His Word to be a tool to communicate His love and direction for every season of our lives. The key is that we have to be intentional about using that tool to know God’s heart and His will for our lives. We have to seek it out not simply for information – but transformation!
This week I want to challenge you to dig into God’s Word with the intent of hearing from Him. Not as a task to check off your list…but because you want to hear God’s voice for your life – acknowledging it as the authority for life’s decisions as you have to make them right now.
