Read Hebrews 9:14 NIV

How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

Today we begin a deeper look at some of the things we believe. The devotions for the rest of the week will revolve around the Free Methodist Church statements of belief.  You will find a link to these statements at the end of the devos for today and the rest of this week.

What we believe: We believe in one living God in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

I love how today’s verse reminds us of the existence of God in three entities that make up one…each part needed for us to truly experience the love of God and to live in the way we were created; for the purpose of loving and serving God.  It can be hard to wrap our minds around the idea of one living God existing in different forms – in fact scholars and theologians have long debated it and tried to explain it in terms we humans can understand.  But, each part of God has been present from the beginning (Genesis 1:26, John 1:1-3) and moves and acts so that we can see and experience the fullness of God’s character.

In God the Father we receive our identity and direction. Through the Son – Jesus Christ – we receive God in a human form. One who walked this earth just as we do, teaching us and being a physical expression of God’s love to us. Through Him we find grace, mercy, forgiveness of sin, and salvation. Through the Holy Spirit we can experience God’s presence wherever we are. He is always with us. In Him we can experience conviction, loving correction, peace, and comfort.

Let Isaiah 44:6-8 be our prayer today as we celebrate a living God who meets all our needs.

“This is what the Lord says—

Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty:

I am the first and I am the last;

apart from me there is no God.

Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it.

Let him declare and lay out before me

what has happened since I established my ancient people,

and what is yet to come—

yes, let them foretell what will come.

Do not tremble, do not be afraid.

Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago?

You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me?

No, there is no other Rock; I know not one.”

Amen
